Discover new ways to store energy.
Better energy storage means new chemistries, and the most promising ones are too complex to simulate accurately today. Xanadu's quantum algorithms model that chemistry directly, in work with Volkswagen and other next-generation battery material partners.
The Challenge
Battery performance comes down to physics today's simulations can't capture.
Every new battery material is months of synthesis and testing to rule most of them out. The electron correlation inside a lithium-rich cathode decides whether a cell is safe, dense, and durable, and it's exactly what today's methods simplify to stay tractable.
Quantum computers simulate it directly. Xanadu has partnered to develop algorithms that model lithium-ion cathode structures in fewer than 500 logical qubits.
How Xanadu Helps
Quantum simulation for the materials the energy transition runs on
Cathode and electrolyte discovery
Screening lithium-rich NMC cathodes and electrolytes for energy density and stability is slow and mostly experimental.
Working with Volkswagen and others, Xanadu builds quantum algorithms that simulate cathode electrochemistry, so you can screen candidates before committing to synthesis.
Battery degradation
The mechanisms that age a cell over its lifetime are hard to model and expensive to test.
Simulate degradation pathways directly to design chemistries that hold capacity longer.
Materials for storage and the grid
Catalysts, membranes, and storage materials for the energy transition share the same correlated-electron problem.
Apply the same quantum-simulation stack across the materials the grid and EV transition depend on.
